How to wash our hands in five easy steps

Hand washing requires five simple steps:

1.Wet:         Put both hands under clean, running water.
2.Foam:      Apply plenty of soap into your hands, back and fingertips. Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds (happy birthday) and don't forget to wash them under jewelry and nails. Your fingertips are especially important as people often put their fingers on their faces, nose, and eyes. The virus spreads this way.
3.Brush:      Swipe both hands together and move your fingertips around both hands. You don't need a scrub brush. You don't need to do hard, scrubbing movements.
4.Rinsing:   Put both hands back in running water and wash the soap gently.
5.Drying:    Dry the water completely from your hands. It is best to use a disposable towel (paper towel) in order not to leave germs in the towels. Air dryers commonly found in public bathrooms are also effective.

When should I wash my hands?

Hand washing is important throughout the day, but even more important during an outbreak. In these cases, always remember to wash your hands:
After coming back from a public trip (grocery, business, school, concert, sports activity, hospital, home, etc.).
  • Before leaving the toilet - both reception and public bathrooms.
  • After shaking hands during flu season and virus outbreaks.
  • Food, especially before, during and after preparing raw food.
  • Before eating.
  • Before and after looking after someone who has symptoms of vomiting or diarrhea at home.
  • Before and after treating a cut or wound.
  • After changing diapers or cleaning a child using the toilet.
  • After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • After touching an animal, animal feed, or animal waste.
  • After treating pet food or pet.
  • After touching the trash.
  • After wearing your shoes.
  • After using public computers, it can be used on public desks and stalls, cash and coins, other people's phones, etc.

How long should I wash my hands?

Science has shown that washing your hands for 20 seconds is effective at killing germs. Don't have the patience for this? Experts say that washing your hands while singing twice on your Birthday makes the experience quick and enjoyable.

When should I use a hand sanitizer?

Alcohol-based hand sanitizer (containing at least 60% alcohol) helps protect against the spread of germs and viruses. However, handwashing with soap is still the best. Hand sanitizer is effective in the absence of soap and water. This includes when using public transport and it is difficult to reach the bathroom (plane, train, bus). Carrying a travel size bottle of hand sanitizer makes it easy to disinfect your hands in these situations. Some people use it while sitting for food in a restaurant. Others use it in a crowded presence (games, church service, school meetings).

Apply a generous hand disinfectant in the palm of your hand and rub it on both hands, front and back and fingertips.

Things to consider

It is important to use clean, running water. Never wash your hands by immersing them in a basin of standing water. This water may contain microbes that continue to live there. Sometimes clean flowing waters are affected by natural disasters (hurricanes, hurricanes, etc.). In this case, it is useful to wash your hands with soap as long as water flows.
Avoid touching the door handles, toilet flushes, and faucets after washing your hands. To protect your hands and fingers from microbes, try using a paper towel, clothes, a scarf or gloves.
Do not leave the hand sanitizer unattended with small children. Drinking is poisonous.
