How we protect from Coronavirus

Basic safeguards against new coronavirus

Be aware of the newest information on the COVID-19 epidemic, available on the VHO website and thru your national and native public health authority. Most people who get infected experience a mild illness and recover, but it can be more difficult for others. Take care of your health and protect by doing the following:

Wash your hands frequently

Clean your hands regularly and thoroughly by rubbing your hands with alcohol or washing them with soap and water.
Why? Washing your hands with soap or using alcohol-based hand rubs kills viruses that may be on your hands.

Maintain social distance

Maintain a distance of at least 1 meter between yourself and anyone who coughs or sneezes.
Why? When someone coughs or sneezes, small droplets of liquid that may contain the virus are sprayed from their nose or mouth. If you get too close, you can inhale drops, including the COVID-19 virus, if the coughing person has the disease.

Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth

Why? Hands touch many surfaces and may devour viruses. Once contaminated, your hands can transmit the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and cause you to sick.

Practice respiratory hygiene

Be sure to Observe good respiratory hygiene by both you and the people around you. This means you cover your mouth and nose together with your elbow or tissue bent once you cough or sneeze. Then immediately dispose of used tissue.

Why? Droplets spread the virus. While maintaining good respiratory hygiene, protect people around you from viruses such as colds, flu, and COVID-19.
If you have a fever, cough, and shortness of breath, seek medical care early
Stay home if you're not well. If you have fever, cough, and shortness of breath, seek medical attention and call ahead. Follow the instructions of your local health authority.

Why? National and native authorities will have the newest information on things in your area. An advance call will allow your doctor to quickly direct you to the proper medical building. It will also protect you and help prevent the spread of viruses and other infections.

Stay informed and follow the advice of your healthcare provider

Stay up-to-date with the latest COVID-19 updates. Follow the advice of a healthcare provider, national and local public health authority or employer on how to protect yourself and others from COVID-19.
Why? National and native authorities will have the newest information on whether COVID-19 is expanding in your area. They are best placed to advise what people in your area should do to guard themselves.

Follow the instructions above.

Stay home if you start feeling well, even with mild symptoms such as a headache and a slight runny nose, until you recover. Why? Avoiding contact with others and medical visits will allow these facilities to work more efficiently and help protect you et al. from possible COVID-19 and other viruses.
If you develop fever, cough, and shortness of breath, seek medical attention immediately as this may be due to a respiratory infection or other serious condition. Call ahead and tell your provider for recent trips or contact with travelers. Why? An advance call will allow your physician to quickly direct you to the right healthcare facility. This will also help prevent the possible spread of COVID-19 and other viruses.

VHO defined four transmission scenarios for COVID-19:

1. Countries without cases (No cases);
2. Countries with 1 or more cases, imported or locally discovered (sporadic cases);
3. Countries experienced in groups in time, geographical location and/or shared exposure (Case Clusters);
4. Countries with higher outbreaks of local transmission (Community transmission).
