In 2010, the United Nations Department of Public Information (now the Department of Global Communications) announced the launch of the United Nations Language Day. This initiative aims to celebrate the use of multiple languages and cultural diversity, and promote the equal use of the six official languages in the United Nations. Among them, the Ministry of Public Information set the Chinese Day in the "Valley Rain" of the 24th solar term of the lunar calendar to commemorate the contribution of Cangjie, the ancestor of the Chinese characters.

For many years, the United Nations Chinese language Day has become a window for people to understand Chinese culture. Around Chinese Language Day every year, the United Nations Headquarters in New York will launch a series of colorful activities, including painting exhibitions, Chinese learning forums, special lectures, fashion and traditional opera exhibitions, etc.

In addition, the United Nations offices in Geneva, Bangkok, Nairobi, Vienna, and other UN agencies will also organize exhibitions, lectures, fun knowledge tests and other activities to highlight the charm of Chinese and Chinese culture.

Gu Yu and Cang Jie made words

Gu Yu is the last solar term in spring. At this time, the first planting of seedlings and new crops in the field most need the moisture of the rain, so it is said that "spring rain is as expensive as oil". The duckweed in the pond begins to grow in the spring and summer season, and spring tea is also harvested around this season. At this moment, it gives people a vision of the growth and prosperity of everything, as the so-called "the season of the year lies in spring".

Regarding the origin of the Guyu Festival, according to the "Huainanzi", Cangjie's making of characters was an earth-shattering event. The Yellow Emperor issued an edict in late spring and early summer, announcing the success of Cangjie's making of characters, and calling on the world's subjects to learn together. According to legend, he was moved by Emperor Tian because of his effective word-making. At that time, the world was suffering from famine, and he ordered Tian Bingtian to open the granary of the Tiangong, and a valley of rain fell, and all the people in the world were saved. Later generations named this day Gu Yu as one of the twenty forth solar terms.
