After one episode, it is fair to say that King: The Eternal Monarch is good. Really good. Despite the fact that from the very beginning we are baffled by jumping between different time frames, “King: the Eternal Monarch” does its job perfectly, creating the atmosphere for the upcoming season and doing this with enough wit, charisma, and intrigue to force you to come back again and again. Whether this will be another hit, such as Crash Landing, or not, is still unknown, but there is certainly an opportunity for this to challenge this illustrious title of 2020!

We begin Episode 1 King: The Eternal Monarch with an intriguing story told by a man named Lee Lim, with bloodshot hands and handcuffs at the police station. Only in his police dossier, it is written that he is 70 years old, but he does not look at a day older than 25 years. The reason for this, apparently, is the rivalry between his brother and the receipt of Manpasikjeok, the legendary flute that allows him to be transported. between worlds.

Then we cross the Kingdom of Koria in the winter of 1994. A group of armed guards led by Li Rome appears and confronts his Father. Lee Rome stabs King Lee Ho in the heart and takes the Sword of the Four Tigers for his own. Only the young Lee Gong appears and demands that Li Rome be imprisoned and receive the maximum punishment. Soldiers surround him, and this makes Li Rome hit the boy in the throat at the pillar.

Suddenly a strange man appears, leading to a big shootout. Lee Rome mourns the lack of time and hurriedly leaves the palace, leaving behind broken glass and two bodies.

In the morning, rumors of murder become known, and Lee Gong becomes king. Prince Buyeong arrives to oversee affairs and the subsequent hunt for Li Rome. Only our antagonist makes his way into the forest with the broken remains of a flute, which creates a portal to a parallel world.
This world takes him to the Republic of Korea in 1994; a world that is very different from his own and much more like today's Korea. Instead of the current royal appointment, a president has been appointed. In this reality, Li Rim is a disabled person and is confined to a wheelchair, and Li Ho is a beggar in the street. Killing his alternative self, Li Rome observes how Li Gong arrives in this reality and sees firsthand what happened. Feeling that this could be bad news, Korean Lee Gong is murdered.

In the kingdom of Koria, the new king is crowned when our wounded Lee Gong comes up and mourns his father. When he cries in the palace, he meets Jong Yong and hands him the “Indestructible Sword,” a sign that helps him feel better and strengthen his friendship.

Meanwhile, in the Republic, the body of Li Rome (the body of that world) is shown to his wife, and she confirms his identity. Returning home, she thanks the heavens for his death, considering how heavy the burden he was for her. Only from another room is the impostor Lee Rome listening, who gets up from the wheelchair and rises above her when she is crouching in the corner.

Li Rome’s body is washed ashore in Koria, and with it is a statement of his death and confirmation that every bone in his body was broken. When we move to the fall of 2019, Li Rome returns after a long absence and does not withstand a single day. King Lee Gong, however, of course, has. He is not interested in marrying and instead is occupied with his duties as king.

In a rowing boat competition, someone shoots Lee Gong, prompting his Chief of Security Joe Young to defend him. Holding two suspects at gunpoint, Lee Gong spies on a man in a black rabbit costume and immediately recalls his favorite fairy tale - Alice in Wonderland. Chasing him through the streets, the rabbit manages to leave, but this does not prevent Lee Gong from being distracted by the problems that have plagued him all these years, many of which stem from the traumatic moments associated with his father.
Returning to the Republic of Korea, Tae-Yul works with the police to find the culprit in his house but does so quite audaciously. However, this brings its own rewards, as it reveals the location of the murder in the parking lot. Tae-Yul and others, lacking sufficient workforce, refuse to work overtime to cope with this new workload.

Lee Gong, meanwhile, again finds the rabbit and grabs his horse Maximus, rushing through the forest to try to catch him. He does not find a rabbit but accidentally stumbled upon a portal into a parallel world. Looking ahead, he sets off for Korea, where Tae-Yul asks him to leave his horse on the side of the road. Although he does not listen and instead looks around this new world. Tae-Yul encounters him face to face and, realizing that he knows her face, hugs her tightly, whispering that he found her. In this episode 1 comes to an end.
